Between the Victorian seaside resorts of Cromer and Sheringham, West Runton has good road connections and a small railway station with regular services to Norwich. It is a village that offers the best of North Norfolk's coast without the bustle of its larger neighbours — a place where daily life moves at its own pace, connected to the sea and the countryside in equal measure.
Village Life
West Runton has a pub — The Village Inn — restaurants, a post office, an independent school, and a village store. There is also a golf links course nearby. The community is close-knit but welcoming, with a rhythm set by the seasons rather than a commuter timetable. The village is well served by the Bittern Line railway from West Runton Station, just half a mile from Orchid Lee, offering direct services through Sheringham and Cromer to Norwich.
The Beach & Coast Path
West Runton Beach is just 0.4 miles from Orchid Lee — a sandy stretch backed by fossil-rich cliffs and rock pools that children never tire of exploring. The Norfolk Coast Path runs directly through the village, connecting miles of clifftop walking in both directions. Head east towards Cromer for dramatic cliff walks and crab boats on the beach. Walk west into Sheringham for its Victorian promenade and independent shops.

The Woolly Mammoth & Natural Heritage
The village is famous for the West Runton Woolly Mammoth — a huge 600,000–700,000 year old fossilised elephant discovered in the 1990s, one of the most complete mammoth skeletons ever found in Britain. The cliffs continue to yield fossils, making the beach a magnet for families and amateur geologists alike.
West Runton is also home to the Hilltop Shirehorse Centre, and nearby National Trust woodland walks offer year-round access to ancient forest and heathland. Felbrigg Hall, a magnificent National Trust estate, is just 4 miles away.
